STUDENT MULTIMEDIA ACCELERATED LEARNING LAB
SMALLab is a 3D mixed reality learning environment where students actively engage both their mind and body to learn new and/or challenging subjects, rather than solely listening to lectures and/or watching demonstrations. It’s an approach to teaching we call embodied learning.

To Revolutionize Classroom Learning with Modern Technologies and Methodologies
Today, as more and more devices enter our homes, lives and classrooms, students arrive at school increasingly conditioned to this style of intellectual engagement regarding everything they deem important. This makes it increasingly challenging to reach students solely through traditional teaching and learning methods.
SMALLab’s embodied learning approach addresses this growing divergence by providing a one-of-a-kind, open 3D interactive classroom experience in which students participate and collaborate with one another in standards-aligned learning activities that engage students both mentally and physically. Initially funded by the National Science Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and Intel Research, SMALLab produced an 86% increase in student understanding, a 6.7X increase in student-to-student collaboration, and a 33% increase in teacher performance.
