Reading with Relevance is an evidence-based curriculum using high-interest diverse books to unite academic and social/emotional learning. Our intentional lesson plans inspire students to read deeply, think critically, talk openly, and write reflectively about topics that matter.

Reading with Relevance has been approved by CASEL as one of their few academically-integrated SEL programs â€” demonstrating evidence of effectiveness at improving student outcomes at the highest level by supporting students' academic, social & emotional growth.

Pilot Reading with Relevance by selecting a single teacher's guide for any of our titles, or downloading our free and open-source teacher's guide for Ghost Boys. There's no better way to get to know this program and its impact then by witnessing your own students' engagement with a book that mirrors their experiences and helps them explore their emotions.

Length of Pilot: 7-16 one-hour teaching sessions

What will learners know and be able to do as a result of this pilot?
Learners will show marked improvements in their grade-level literacy skills, and concrete improvements in their social and emotional wellbeing.

What training is provided to support pilot implementation?
Free, asynchronous digital training is available at any time, and some school partners request personalized trainings through digital or in-person sessions.

What is included in pilot materials?
Piloting the program requires at minimum one teacher's guide and access to a novel or audiobook for reading.
